Our 34th Listening Room –
Friday, October 9, 6pm
Free and open to all.
Karen sent us this: “What does clarinet, seven dwarfs, friends & family, easy jazz and a day in Paris have in common? ZU Gallery, of course!” That’s all the setlist you’re getting.
This is the kind of night the Listening Room is for. Five musicians, short sets, and a room close enough that you hear the breath before the first note.
Karen Steele directs the Four Corners Community Band. First chair clarinet in the Michigan All State Band, a full-ride band scholarship to Arizona State, the Rose Parade and the 1987 Rose Bowl, then 28 years teaching band to Arizona kids. She still auditions for the Arizona Wind Symphony every year.
Nancy Thomas is on piano. She moved to Cortez in the 1970s and has been playing about 70 years, most of them behind someone else. If a musician in this town needed an accompanist, they called Nancy. She plays bells with the community band too.
Fawn Curtis is on flute. Kacie Steele and Kristie Anderson-Steele each play a song or two.
Sit a bit and just listen.
