Stories in a Snapshot: A Flash Fiction Workshop
Come explore the power of the very short. Through discussion of the flash fiction form and close reading of exemplary pieces, we’ll examine how compression, precision, and suggestion can create resonance far beyond the page. Participants will have the opportunity to draft their own flash fiction, experimenting with snapshot-sized moments that linger long after the story ends.
Kim Henderson is the author of the flash fiction chapbook The Kind of Girl, which won the Seventh Annual Rose Metal Press Short Short Chapbook Contest. Her stories have appeared in The Kenyon Review, The Missouri Review, Tin House Online, Story, Flash Fiction Online, Four Corners Voices, and elsewhere. A graduate of the University of Montana MFA program, Kim spent fifteen years chairing the Creative Writing Department at Idyllwild Arts Academy, a renowned arts boarding high school in Southern California. She currently teaches writing at San Juan College, and is at work on a short story collection and a novel-in-flash.
