In the mid-1960s, Andy Warhol transformed his Factory loft into a
multimedia laboratory where the Velvet Underground played beneath
projected films…actors auditioning, New York street scenes,
experimental footage…all flickering across the band in real time.
Welcome to our version of those legendary sessions.
Midnight Cowboy performs an acoustic set of Velvet Underground songs
and similar artists from that era, while locally-shot films of Mancos
and Cortez life project onto the band. It’s our Southwest Colorado
interpretation of Warhol’s Exploding Plastic Inevitable…where music,
film, and atmosphere merge into one immersive experience.
The low-key acoustic setup honors the raw, intimate quality of the
Velvet Underground’s sound. The moving images honor Warhol’s vision.
The setting is purely Cortez.
Come experience a piece of 1960s avant-garde culture reimagined for
our little town.
