Bring your camera and get ready to learn to take high quality portrait photos with professional photographer, Jodi Jahrling. This class will cover a number of specific topics, including:

We’ll discuss taking portraits indoors in a controlled setting using studio lighting.
Topics will include:
- Types of studio lighting
- Understanding how light should hit a subject
- Creative lighting
Working with natural light
We’ll discuss taking portraits outdoors (weather permitting) where you have limited control of the lighting.
Topics will include:
- Handling sunlight, shadows
- Using artificial light
Posing
We’ll turn our focus to the portrait subject and discuss how to maximize the visual appeal of the picture. We’ll practice with a live model.
Topics will include:
- Handling reflections (glasses, jewelry, etc)
- Maximizing flattering features
- Working with multiple subjects
Photoshopping portraits
We’ll spend a brief portion of the session (during lunch) discussing digital editing techniques in Adobe Photoshop.
Topics will include:
- Lightening and brightening teeth and eyes
- Touching up hair and blemishes
- Using Liquify
- Ideal Cropping
Practicing
We’ll apply what we’ve learned by taking some portraits (studio and natural light). You’ll get direct feedback on your photos and how to improve your portrait-taking and how to adjust your camera to maximize your photo quality.
Cost includes all materials, instruction, lunch and a beverage. Workshop time is 4 hours.​​
