Wine has a reputation for being influenced by the geology, climate, soils, etc. of where the grapes are grown. But just how strong is this influence and how much of that reputation is just marketing malarky? In this wine class, we’ll explore the links between wine and geology and other aspects of the physical and cultural landscapes that may (or may not) impact the characteristics of the final wine. In addition, we’ll explore some strategies to unravel wine labels and gain clues to find wines reflective of their landscape. No prior wine knowledge is needed, just an interest in wine and curiosity for exploring something new. Each guest will receive tastings of 5 wines, light snacks, and a Colorado Geology postcard. The seminar should take ~1.25 hours.
